9-11-06 Dedication

Village of Fishkill – September 11, 2006 The day dawned very much like a day 5 years ago with a clear sky and bright sun. This was the day the Village of Fishkill and its Emergency Service Units were going to dedicate the Village Memorial to 9-11. It was the fifth anniversary of the horrific attacks of 9-11-01.

At 8:30 AM Deputy Mayor Peter Phillips welcomed all the dignitaries, elected officials, emergency service personnel and citizens. Representatives from many area Police Departments, Fire Departments, EMS Services, the Village Board, the Town Board and of course our U.S. Congresswoman and our State Senator and Assemblyman were in attendance. Also attending was a Battalion Chief from the City of Peoria, IL. and 1st Lt. Shawn Tabankin, a member of our Armed Forces who had recently served in Iraq.

Deputy Mayor Phillips continued by asking Kaitlyn Miccio to sing the National Anthem followed by an Invocation by Rev. Jean Campbell of the Trinity Episcopal Church. Deputy Mayor Phillips then provided some timely and informative remarks about the day before turning the microphone back over the Kaitlyn Miccio for the singing of Amazing Grace.

It was then time to remember: Rad Wilson, President of the Fishkill Fireman’s Benevolent Association and Howard Tabankin, President of the Fishkill Police Benevolent Association stepped forward to do the unveiling of the Village of Fishkill 9-11 Monument which was being dedicated in memory of all who lost their lives during 9-11-01.

At exactly 8:46 AM Deputy Mayor Phillips asked for a minute of silence to recognize the time the first plane hit the World Trade Center and Rev. Campbell then provided the Benediction.

Deputy Mayor Phillips on behalf of Mayor James Miccio thanked everyone for attending.
