2007 Department Inspection & Clam Bake

Wiccopee, NY - Saturday, June 30, 2007 The annual Department Inspection was held followed by a Clam Bake at the Monte Rosa Lodge in Wiccopee. The weather was great for the Brothers and their families to enjoy an afternoon of recognition and camaraderie. Joining the Department for the event were several mutual aid department representatives, officials from the Village of Fishkill, and other close friends of the Department.

The Program started with a welcome and thank you from Ex-Chief Glenn Scofield Jr. and President Lucariello followed by the introduction of guests by Chief Dean Scofield.

25 Year Service Award Ceremony

Keith Scofield was recognized for 25 years of active service and Kent T. Sopris was recognized for 25 years of service.

Keith Scofield was presented with his Service Award by his father, Ex-Chief Glenn Sr. while other family members looked on including his brothers; Dean, Chief of the Department and Ex-Chief Glenn Jr.

Kent (Tom) Sopris was unable to attend.

Department Award Ceremony

Chief Dean Scofield read a detailed overview of a structure fire with a report of trapped occupants on Patricia Ave. in the Village of Fishkill on 5 Aug. 2006. During this fire, four firefighters were involved in primary search and rescue activities in severe fire conditions. An occupant was located and removed from the structure but later died at a local hospital. For their acts of bravery and disregard for personal safety that night; Assistant Chief Steve Vilardi, Deputy Chief Rad Wilson, Captain Brandon Knapp, and Firefighter Keith Scofield were presented with the Department Medal of Bravery.

Chief Scofield then read another detailed overview of a nationally reported multi-fatality mutual aid structure fire on 19 January 2007, where Fishkill firefighters provided search and rescue activities in severely deteriorating conditions above the fire and removed two children which were later determined to have been killed before the fire. The Chief went on to say “if the circumstances had been different, these two occupants were given a chance by the bold and aggressive moves of the Fishkill firefighters.” For the actions of Ladder 42-12’s crew that night, the Department Unit Citation was presented to Captain Brandon Knapp, Lieutenant Ron Arrigo, Lieutenant Kevin Obrien, FF Keith Scofield, FF/Chauffeur Jeff Lucariello, FF Joe Repanti and FF Kevin Kilkenny. A further note to this Unit Citation, Chief Dean Scofield was included in this Department Unit Citation for his leadership and personal acts by order of Mayor James J. Miccio during the Village Board Meeting of 9 July 2007.

Ex-Chief Glenn Scofield Jr. ended the formal program with a thank you to all the Brothers and their families for attending and a Moment of Silence for the Brothers that have passed away.

This year’s event was co-chaired by; President J. Lucariello, Chief D. Scofield and Ex-Chief G. Scofield Jr.
