2008 Hero's Award
Award categories included Lifetime Achievement, Community Involvement, Child Mentoring, Heroic Acts and Teamwork Within a Squad.
Village of Fishkill, LT. William VanPelt and FF Richard Wolfe were recognized and awarded for their outstanding work in Child Mentoring.
These men have developed a fire prevention program that is adjusted for age so each group receives a customized fire safety message. The fire prevention program for 2007 was presented to over 365 children ranging from preschool to elementary school age. Sessions included discussions on fireworks, electrical safety, smoking materials and kitchen safety. Demonstrations were also held using student participation covering the making of a 911 call using working telephones, checking doors for heat and crawling low to avoid smoke, stop-drop & roll, EDITH, firefighter victim removal and of course, all groups toured the fire station, sat in a fire truck and wore a fire helmet.
Several Members were on hand to support and recognize the Brothers as they received their Award.
