Fishkill, NY - February 2, 2008 The Village of Fishkill Fire Department initiated training on a new R.I.T. Personal Bailout System.

February 23, 2008 will mark the 105th time Protection Engine Company of Fishkill, NY has served this Annual Event.

New York State Tax Credit Form IT - 245 is attached for download (.PDF). This form can be filled out by any NYS volunteer Firefighter or Ambulance Service Worker entitling them to a $200.00 tax credit. If you have questions, see your tax preparer.

This specialized collapse rescue equipment, which is made by Paratech Inc., will greatly help rescue firefighters trapped in building collapse incidents as well as a variety of other emergencies. Additionally, firefighters can use the equipment to rescue victims in collapsed structures and severe truck and automobile accidents. The complement of tools includes concrete breaking and cutting equipment, emergency shoring struts, high and low pressure airbags, and a supplied air cart.

The Fire Department Bell Saga

In the mid 1880's, James Bearing acquired the Oppie home on Main Street at what is now the entrance to the Old Post Mall. This house was subsequently purchased by James Adriance, who was the Fishkill Postmaster during the 1940’s and 1950’s. That house was razed in the 1980's and replaced with the professional office building that is on the left as you enter Taylor Lane from Main Street.

Anyhow, when Bearing remodeled the buildings, he took down a small bell that had been hung on one of his barns for some 25 years and gave it to the Fire Department. David M. Horton built a cupola on the roof of the engine house, which at this time was on Robinson Street, and hung the bell in it. For 20 years after, this was the Department Fire Alarm.
