Fire Prevention

Fishkill Fire Prevention Program

The Village of Fishkill Fire Department provides Fire Prevention Education to more than 100 children each year through Fire Station visits, and trips to local businesses and other establishments as requested. We host students throughout the year from the Fishkill Elementary School, Blodgett Memorial Library, Kiddie Academy and DeKinder School. Fire Prevention Education is also provided as part of a Badge Program for Fishkill Cub Scout Pack 54 and fire extinguisher training is made available to several businesses and civic groups as needed.

Our Fire Prevention Education & Training Program is available to any group or organization with priority being given to Village of Fishkill residents and businesses. Please drop us a letter of request; c/o Village of Fishkill Fire Department, Fire Prevention Committee, 1132 Main Street, Fishkill, New York 12524. Note our programs can be tailored to fit any age group.

Fire Prevention at the Firehouse

The Pictures show day care students and other area children visiting the Fire Station as part of the Annual Fire Prevention Week Activities.

During these activities, the children are taught about calling 911, Stop Drop and Roll, Operation EDITH (Exit Drills In The Home) and how to get out in case of a fire; along with other basic fire prevention tips. In addition, we get "up close and personal", showing them what we look and sound like with turnout gear on; and the highlight of this exercise for the children is wearing the turnout gear themselves.

As you would expect, the most exciting part of the trip for the children is when they get to see the fire engines and all the equipment, as well as sitting in the cab of our newest Engine 42-13.

Thanks to Ex-Assít. Chief Wolfe and Lieutenant VanPelt along with others for coordinating this very important program!

Remember: Practice Fire Prevention Every Day!

Knox-Box Rapid Entry System

This Fire Department uses and supports Knox-Box ®

Knox Box logo

Fire departments across the country use the Knox © System to prevent costly forced entry damage while protecting property and lives. Knox key boxes, vaults and cabinets hold building entrance keys, electronic access cards and vital emergency information. Knox key switches and padlocks provide fire department access through property gates.

As the property owner, you purchase a KNOX-BOX ® device then mount it near your building entrance or property gate according to fire department guidelines. Firefighters use a unique high security Knox ® Master Key to open KNOX-BOX devices in their jurisdiction.

For additional information and/or ordering information, please call your Local Fire Department (845-896-6613 if the Fishkill Fire) or visit www.knoxbox.com/store/propertyowners.cfm.
